Standing taller than most pill boxes, this oval porcelain piece gives its yellow flowers plenty of room to bloom. It is a hand-painted Limoges box decorated in Limoges, France, in one of the traditional shapes.
A Tall Bouquet in Yellow
The extra height turns the sides into a little canvas, so the painted flowers can climb and spread instead of crowding onto a lid. On a shelf of flatter boxes, its upright oval silhouette stands out at once and gives a row of pieces a pleasing change of rhythm.
Building a Yellow Garden
Group it with flat round, semi oval and crown top boxes in the same sunny color to see how a single palette changes from shape to shape. Collectors who favor floral pieces often keep one tall oval as the anchor at the back of a grouping.
