Raised on its own small foot, this blue porcelain egg stands upright with a poise that loose eggs never manage. It is a hand-painted Limoges box made in Limoges, France, in the egg shape that so many collectors gather by the dozen.
Standing Tall in Blue
The foot does more than steady the piece. It lifts the egg slightly off the shelf, giving it the look of a tiny trophy or a jeweled ornament on a pedestal. The blue color carries all the way around, so it looks finished from the front, the back and the sides.
Feathering the Nest
- Hand-painted porcelain from Limoges, France
- Belongs with egg, Easter and spring themed pieces
- Pairs well with nest, bird and floral egg designs
Pedestal Places
Because it needs no separate stand, it is easy to place on a mantel, a narrow ledge or the front row of a cabinet. It makes a lovely Easter present for a grown-up, a spring birthday token, or a thank-you for someone who decorates with blue all year.
Porcelain has been made in Limoges since the late 1700s, after deposits of kaolin, a fine white clay, turned up near Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche in 1768. Eggs like this one carry that long tradition into a shape that never really goes out of season.
